Summer 2000

Saturday, September 9th
we're in Ft. Worth, Texas today for a big downtown show this evening. we'll be taking a 10 day break after tonight's show.

we played some great colleges this week at the university of tennessee martin and monticello, arkansas. we were pleasantly surprised to see that college students knew who we were and were very receptive to the new music we played for them. there were great crowds at both shows. it makes us really look forward to the upcoming college shows we have scheduled. and then there was tulsa, oklahoma last night...you guys are crazy! it was our first time in tulsa and the crowd made us feel right at home - singing along with the songs and having a really good time with us. last nights set went like this: idaho, it's love, free, she's on fire, rat, ramble on, i wish you would, i am, days, it's about you, train, virginia. then we came back out and played: light my fire, if you leave, and flatfoot. and man, whoever it was that provided us with that awesome aftershow food on the bus!....good ole southern style catfish, hotlinks, chicken, shrimp...it was gooooood! thanks, tulsa.

we'll talk to you all soon.

Tuesday, September 5th
we're stuck at a truck stop somewhere in arkansas about an hour
outside of memphis on our day off. our bus blew a tire and the
closest replacement tire is in memphis. it'll be awhile before
they can get it fixed, so we're watching "the godfather" on the
bus and eating some truck stop buffet. so much for our day at
graceland! oh, and the door on this fine bus (which is on its
way to the junkyard after this tour) keeps breaking and charlie
is stuck outside with a couple of locals trying to sell us some
songs while pat hurries to fix the door and save him. see, and
you thought it was all just fun and games out here on the road!

anyway, we've had fun shows the past couple of days in rockford,
illinois and cedar rapids, iowa. last night we were on a bill with
fellow san franciscans "huey lewis and the news". man those guys
had a truck load of hits! in rockford the night before we shared
the stage with one of our favorite bands, "the jayhawks".

and here we sit...

our tour manager just informed us that we'll be moving into a new
bus when we get to memphis. hopefully a bus with running water,
satellite tv, doors that work, beds that don't squeak and good tires.

hey, remember the last time we were in arkansas we got charged like
$400 for laundry?! what's with this state? ah, we love ya anyway.
c'mon....give us a hug...

talk to you soon.

Sunday, September 3rd
we played the minnesota state fair friday night in st. paul with
semisonic. it was a good one. great fireworks! they lit them
off right outside of our bus, so we had a pretty great view.
the show itself was strong if not a tad rusty (we've been on
vacation!). pat forgot some words (what's new), but the new
verses that he improvised for "free" and "homesick" were very good!
something about a raisin...
anyway, we're going to mix up the set-list as much as we can on this run
of dates. friday nights show went like this:
it's love, free, homesick, she's on fire, i am, i wish you would,
light my fire, if you leave, something more, it's about you, train,
virginia.
last night we played our first ever show in south dakota at the
"bash in the grass". it was good, too. lots of crowd surfing and
nakedness. we hung out at the hotel for most of the day yesterday
waiting for the show. charlie was feeling a little down in the dumps,
so scott decided to cheer him up a bit. he strapped on his rollerblades
and skated on into charlie's room and went head first into the window,
which broke, but he cheered charlie right up! scott's head is just
fine. it's very hard. last nights set-list went like this:
idaho, it's love, free, she's on fire, rat, ramble on, i am, i wish
you would, train, it's about you, if you leave, meet virginia.
encores were: light my fire and flatfoot.

we're in rockford, illinois today.
talk to you soon.

Wednesday, August 30th
we're gearing up to hit the road again for some select dates
starting this friday in minneapolis at the state fair. we'll
mostly be playing colleges through november - testing out some
of the new songs. we're all excited to get back out there.
a full-scale tour can be expected with the release of our new
album (tentatively titled "Something More"), which has a new
release date of february 5th. until then you can find one new
song ("Respect") on the "dawson's creek" soundtrack due out on
october 5th and our version of the doors' "light my fire" due
out on november 13th. we'll keep you posted with notes from
the road and will look forward to seeing you at the shows.

be good to each other.

Tuesday, August 15
we spent the last four days in san francisco writing some
new songs and rehashing a few oldies but goodies ("flatfoot"
and "sometimes"). we're really excited about them. our
recording of "light my fire" that we did in los angeles last
week for the Doors tribute album also turned out very good.
it's pretty different and exciting. rumor has it that we may
be included in a VH1 Storytellers special on the Doors that will
air in november and will feature live performances by Train,
Smashmouth, Stone Temple Pilots, the Cult, Creed and the
surviving members of the Doors...that's the rumor, anyway. we'll
let you know.

aside from that, we'll be in seattle on saturday for a show
with Smashmouth that we're looking forward to. see you there!

Thursday, July 27
hey there! we're still on vacation (kinda). we have a show
this saturday in or around washington DC and then we fly to
LA on sunday for a few fun things. we've been invited to record
a song for a DOORS tribute album, which will feature other great
artists such as Aerosmith, Creed, Smashmouth, the Pretenders,
Marilyn Manson and more. we've been asked to record probably
their biggest ever hit, "Light My Fire" and will do so on
Monday in Los Angeles. we'll also be doing a photo shoot while
we're there on tuesday. these will be photos for the upcoming
new album and for promo and posters and stuff. then we're back
on vacation. also....there are some more shows coming up that
should be posted on our website very soon, but we'll tell you
what we know now: August 19th in Seattle, Washington with
Smashmouth, September 1st in St.Paul, Minnesota at the state
fair, September 2nd somewhere in South Dakota, September 3rd
in Rockford, Illinois, September 4th in Cedar Rapids, Iowa,
September 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th to be announced somewhere in
the midwestern region, September 9th in Dallas, Texas, September
22nd in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and September 23rd at Davidson
College somewhere in the Carolina's (that one might be a private
show). then some more vacation!

our new record is still slated for a late October release, but we
all know how those things tend to change. we'll keep our fingers
crossed.

and....we're on this years "NOW 4" CD release, which is basically
a potpourri of the past years smash hit songs. "meet virginia"
was our lucky winner. we're probably on there with Ricky Martin,
Cher and the Backstreet Boys, so you'll probably want to run out
and get that one right away. quite an honor though. we're excited.

ok. gotta go. just wanted to drop a line and say hello. we (the
bandmembers) haven't seen much of each other while on break. Pat
has spent his entire vacation in Erie, PA with his family, Scott
is lurking about in Marin County, Rob is spending time with his
family in Northern California, Jimmy is building a new house in
Las Vegas, and Charlie is at home in Berkeley, California making
some big plans.

we'll talk to you soon.

Monday, June 26
we've been back from australia for about two weeks now. it
was great! we're hoping to return there for a full-scale tour
during their summer months (our winter in the states). so,
that was "officially" the end of the tour for our debut record
that hopefully you all have by now. it's been a crazy two and
a half years of touring. all good, but we're ready for a bit
of a rest before releasing our next record and hitting the road
again (probably in the fall). we'll be doing a few select shows
in the states over the summer (you'll find them on our website),
but that's about it. we've got to finish up our record (we got
together and wrote a couple more songs in san francisco last week)
and probably do a video sometime during our break. we'd sincerely
like to thank everybody for making our very first record (that
we made ourselves on borrowed money from our families) such a big
success for us (platinum and still selling!). it was a long, hard
road and we've made alot of great friends along the way. we'll
look forward to getting our next record released as soon as possible
and getting back out there for some live shows. but first...
we must rest.

we did play a couple of shows over this past weekend, though. we
were in wassau, wisconsin on friday night for a really fun, semi-
soggy show. and we were in kansas city saturday for the big
mix 93.3 radio show with third eye blind, bon jovi, melissa etheridge,
vertical horizon, westlife, sonique, blaque and many others. of
course, that was a good one...very hot!

anyway, we'll see you all soon. we'll drop a line right here on
this page every so often, so keep tuning in.

take care and happy summer!
