Subject: Idiotorial** Feel free to drop John a Line

Music and show reviewing, enjoying a concert as a fan, deciding which
derisive lines to use to describe a lame review, all can be an utterly
subjective experience. With the John Beck review of the April 18 TRAIN
concert at the Mystic Theater, not only can it be a subjective experience,
but a completely enjoyable one as well (the derisive lines, not the review).

Even as a fan of TRAIN, I can understand (I guess, some people don’t have taste) that not everyone would enjoy the
show...to each his own, whatever picks your guitar or sharpens your pen.
But I can not understand John Beck’s complaints about the performance.

Let’s see, they played a song twice in one concert...John Beck would have you believe that is akin to stealing from a Salvation Army kettle during the holidays( which John Beck may have to stand next to if the caliber of his reviews continue on the same path). I actually thought it was a bit of creativity, the crowd responded so well to the song the first time (its an amazing song), why not play it again as a treat to this hometown crowd, and enjoy it again. I have often wanted to hear a song again, in concert, but it has never been done. TRAIN did it for the fans, not because there was a lack of material.
Beck’s comment about Pat (the lead singer) “beating on anything he could get his hands on” what is that about, since when did “throwing yourself into the performance” become a bad thing ? I think loving what you do and having passion for it, is something this “writer” doesn’t understand. This fan would like to beat on something up around a certain reviewers head (figuratively speaking, of course...well maybe some rotten fruit wouldn’t be too violent).
Though Beck isn’t the headline writer, the idea of the TRAIN show being too polished is, in my opinion, like saying the wax job on the Jaguar is a bit too shiny. If TRAIN takes the time to put together a polished, creative, have them dancing in the aisle show, they shouldn’t be criticized for the fact. What it might do is encourage a certain music reviewer to do likewise, put together a coherent, well-thought out, polished (even over-polished) review.
The good thing was, we were able to hear their great new song twice. Fortunately for us though, we won’t have to experience the John Beck review twice, as unlike the TRAIN song, once was more than enough for his review. I mean we never know maybe John was beat up in school, maybe his mommy didn’t love him, maybe he had terrible acne which resulted in a youth of frequent masturbation. We do not know John Becks story but rest assure it is nothing to read about.
As for me I will never buy another Press Democrat … YOU SUCK
A Devoted TRAIN FAN ** Feel free to drop john a line about his horrible review of the train show. I have attached so none of you have to buy the paper to read it.

Train at Canes San Diego

Just wanted to let you guys know that I had a great time at the show. I've never seen a show in a venue that small before. What I felt that night was spiritual! I'd like to give a shout out to the lovely school teacher that I spent the entire night dancing with. Also to the crazy mom and daughter combo - the couple from Asparagus - and the guitar player from Canada and his lovely wife. We rocked the night away and I came all the way from Vegas to see you! I'm not gonna bitch about Canes management cause I was just happy to be alive and there! Lots of love...

Drops Of Jupiter

Hello all! I would just like to say that I am a Sonwriter and that I judge songs on this criteria: "Do I wish that I would have written that song?" and as far as "Drops of Jupiter" is concerned, I wish I would have. "Drops" is one of the best songs that I have heard in years. It has such a flow and such a good feel. I have been playing it on my acoustic guitar and everytime that I play it I think "Damn! Why couldn't I have written that!" I have not had a chance to see Train live yet. Please come to Memphis so I can! Keep the great lyrics and music coming!!!!!

(Oh...and I have some songs for you if you are interested!)

Beg, Cheat, or Borrow, but don't steal.

Do whatever you can to see this band live! I first saw them at the Houston Earth Day Festival last year, then in San Diego at a small club. This year I won my tickets on Ebay. In San Diego Jimmy threw out a pick and I jumped the barrier to snag it, I have all of their signatures on it! Although, I did not get to meet them:-( But, maybe someday. My favorite song on the new album is Getaway, and I was thrilled when Pat said that it was also his favorite. Well, like I said do what you must, you won't regret it!!!!!!

Great show in denver. It was awsome, however I was hoping that you all would play Blind, but you didn't. And the last time you played in Denver you didn't play it then either, and the time before that i really don't remember if you played it. In my opinion that is the best song you have. It is just so musically well written, but the lyrics are also amazing. You guys rule.

Did any of you guys read the news section with the Street Team feature on Train and some other bands? Is that tv show airing in ANY state? Cane's

I completely agree with L. Hidalgo. The way Cane's handled the train show was a joke. I had the exact same experience. It's a shame because I remember that night less for train's performance, but rather for the unprofessionalism of Cane's. Train was really good though:)

Unsolicited opinion

Guys....damn, I love the new cd. Last night driving across the city I had that sucker cranked so loud and was just singin' at the top of my lungs lookin' like a crazy woman. I have decided that the most brilliant moment of the whole album lies within' "It's About You"......COME ON JUMP TO ME......please please please tell us how you came up with that.

The great thing about this album is that it is much more 'celebratory' (for lack of a better way to say it)than the last one. The last one was great...it was just more melancholy. On "Drops" the vocals and the harmonies are RIPPIN! It's SO MUCH fun to sing along to the entire record. love you....bye for now. :o)

Show at Cane's in San Diego

To Anyone That Enjoys Music:

I would like to share with you an experience I had last Saturday, April 21, 2001, while attending a Train concert at Cane’s Bar & Grill in Mission Beach.

Our tickets indicated that the show started at 7:00pm. We arrived at 6:00pm to get in line as we knew the show was sold out and the band rocked. We immediately got into a line of about 15 people. The venue offers shows to 16 and older and the line reflected all ages. It was cold outside, and after waiting an hour the bouncers came into the line to check our ID’s and give us bracelets indicating that we had tickets and were over 21 years of age. A half hour later, while still standing in this line, a bouncer went to the end of this line, now over a hundred feet long, and announced that they were forming another line of 21 and older around the side of the building at the entrance to the bar. He also told the people at the end of the line that they would get in faster. This news spread to those of us, freezing in the front of the line, as we watched the newly arrived go around the corner to form the new line.

Much to our disgust, we were not let into Cane’s until after 7:30, where, at the door, our Ids were checked again. When we entered the venue, all seats/tables were taken. We found out that the people that formed the second line went into the bar and were let in earlier than those of us standing outside for an hour and a half. Some people had been there since 5:00 waiting.

While standing inside, we asked to speak to the manager of the joint. He arrived in about 15 minutes with an attitude. At this point there were approximately 8 people that had joined in our conversation as they too were in the front of the first line. He told us that we could have gone to the other line and he was sorry, but it is first come, first served. We explained our outrage that the people that drove up at 7:30 walked in before us while we waited. His statement was “Well, they went upstairs and spent money on food and drinks. We take care of our paying customers.” He basically said tough, that’s the way it is around here, if you don’t like it, etc.

While arguing with this man we tried to explain that their bouncers should have gone to the front of the line and explained the second line’s purpose, giving us the opportunity to move first, thus getting the seats we deserved. Not only was the manager rude, he acted shocked to find out that when the doormen of the second line heard that the people in the first line were pissed, they temporarily halted the movement of the second line. I found out later that about eight people in front of me were so angry that they got their money back and left.

It is obvious that Cane’s employees don’t want to be bothered about anything. When one person in our group called a few weeks previously and asked if Train tickets were still on sale, she was told, without hesitation, that there were no tickets left. As a result, she got tickets through TicketMaster for an additional $9.00. A friend of hers then purchased tickets at Cane’s more than a week after her phone attempt. It seemed like the person at Cane’s didn’t want to be bothered to check on the ticket situation.

I’ve seen many concerts in San Diego at many venues. I have never seen such poor management of a bar in my life, not to mention the arrogant attitude of the manager. People, it is your money. You may want to think twice about spending your money at this place. They’ll never get any more of mine.

Sincerely,

L. Hidalgo

rock n' roll dreams

Damn you Train! How am I supposed to go do my crappy job after seeing your fantastic show last night. My lifestyle seems so boring today. I want to set out for Austin, but the damn show is sold out. Last night in front of the gothic, the ticketless wolves were hungry. "Got any xtra tickets?" The unfortunate fools kept asking. You guys played like a new monster...a band at a new peak of career. You have ruined me. Seeing that sh*t 4th row center was incredible. Next time you come thru denver, play the Fillmore instead. It holds I think like 1,500 more people, and it's almost all standing room only and the stage is a little bit bigger. That's the best place to go see a show here. As far as Matchbox20, I'd go to see you guys not them. You are above opening act, I think more people would go to see you than them.
Is the S.F show sold out? If so, you guys should add a second show. I might drive out there for a road trip. By the way Pat, your black shirt is cool. And Eggplant was a killer, perhaps you should save that one for last song.

Kevin - Wed Apr 25 16:03:33 EDT 2001

Something More my fav on DOJ

Also, you know... I gotta say Train is a great band. If they want some constuctive criticsm it would have to be, you guys don't need to do cover songs anymore. I would have rather seen Days or Sweet Rain or Counting On You or Idaho than Want You To Want Me. The only low point of last night's show. You guys now have an impressive song catalouge... other struggling bands are surely jealous. What you have put together is not easy to do. I am Impressed. Stay with one cover song mid set, it doesn't have to be Ramble On... play an obscure Who or Doors song that will bug people out. Break the F*cking rules. By the way, I like Something More the best. No one else on this message board has mentioned it, it has been stuck in my head for days. I think that one Needs to be either the second or third single off the album.

Kevin - Wed Apr 25 15:38:55 EDT 2001

anger and violence

Saw the Denver show last night, it was excellent, a fat joint, 6 beers and I achived "the altered state". Hey all you reading this, if you got tickets to upcoming shows, take my advice and fight your way up to close to the stage as possible. Don't be a wuss and sit at a table. If you know most of the lyrics, fight your way into the first 5 rows, and stand like a f*cking statue through the opening act. Make sure you get nice and faded first (a side note, I like weed a lot the stuff is great!! :>) ). Then you can sing and yell the lyrics along with Pat and bounce and yell yourself hoarse like I did. You won't even feel self concious because it's louder and everyone around is having a blast too. Trust me, it will be the most fun you ever had. Of course you'll have to pee like mad halfway through the set...

I love Drops of Jupiter. Being an acoustic lover, I was wondering if you have any acoustic versions Drops of J, would be really cool, if it was just a Piano and a Guitar, and possibly a Violin. Dunno, just kinda rambling here, but I think it would be cool. Keep up the good work!!

For the second year in a row you guys have amazed me. Your music and lyrics, as well as the lighting and entire set, is and will be the best that will ever cross these eyes. Once a year is not enough to treat the Denver TRAIN fans. Come back. Afer nearly getting to the "great and meet" (a disapointment that I didn't make it) I felt complete after hearing the 4 songs that changed me, "Free", "I Am", "Hopeless", and "Drops of Jupiter". YUou guys rock and should be an inspiration to all that are graced with your music. COLORADO SAYS "WELL DONE TRAIN" Come home soon. Thank you.

Nate - Wed Apr 25 03:38:15 EDT 2001

New fan!!

I had heard Mark and Brian (KLOS radio) rave about you over and over again... well they sure were right on!! I saw you on the David Letterman show and rushed out and bought the new CD and tape!! You guys are awesome!! I haven't had a song (Drops of Jupiter) move me so much in a very long time. Keep up the great work!!! I missed you at the House of Blues but, I'll be keeping my eyes and ears open for your next show close to me!!! Tamara Holbert- Rancho Cucamonga, Ca.

I don't know why but there is something so magical about the way you guys perform. You brought me to tears last year with "sweet rain" and this year with "hopeless". thank you for doing what you do.

by the way-next time you should try sushi heights or japon!!!!

cheers

Is the Train stoppin in Oklahoma?

I love Train! What I love most are the lyrics to the songs. It is about time that there are more artists out there who have something deep, thought provoking and intresting to say. It also is bound to stur up a few hidden emotions. I know I am getting a little deep but bite me. Just kiddin... I enjoy the music but when are ya'll comeing to Oklahoma? You can play at my house if ya need somewhere to play. Best wishes to ya`ll!!

BIRMINGHAM IS READY TRAIN !!!

Ok guys....you sound hurt by us not selling out your two shows here. Don't worry, by the time you
hit the stage, both shows will be sold out. You
know your family here and the way 107.7 X keeps playing "every" song, you should be playing a much bigger venue. I think were all a little upset that we get the MID WEEK dates, but we are the only, yes ONLY town that has train for TWO DATES!!! So i guess we can't complain to much.
Looking forward to both shows here and seeing
Five For Fighting (great band). Here is my request.....would love to here "ain't talking about love" by Van Halen. As you know....we are the ones that broke out your cover "ramble on"...so....let us break this one out also.
Will rap it up know.....THANKS again guys for coming to town again and again and again and again and again.....You know you have seen Train to many times (7 times) when you here a song and look over and my wife is imitating Pat's moves to each song!! *L* Keep rocking guys and stay STAFE !!!

L.A. and San Diego Shows

Hey guys, hope you are enjoying your tour. My wife and I seen you in L.A. and San Diego last week and we were pretty disappointed. The reason being is that it seemed you would not do anything that was not on your set list. And in San Diego it seemed like you all were pretty burnt out and didn't even want to be on stage that night. Ever since we discovered you guys we have really enjoyed your music, especially "FLATFOOT". Which Pat I am sure you remember us from San Diego in front and center with the little sign that said, "FLATFOOT PLEASE". Don't get me wrong we enjoyed all the songs that were played, but we really enjoy Flatfoot alot!!! So hopefully in the future you guys will start to feed off the crowd. Enjoy the rest of your tour!!! Keep on writing GREAT music. See you next time you are in L.A. Mikie

Hey guys. Wonderful show at Buzzfest. I got a few things autographed afterwards and I must say meeting each and every one of you really was great. Thanks for putting on a great set and for being true gentlemen to your fans. Other bands could learn a thing or two from yall. Best of luck one the rest of your tour.

Train at Canes - San Diego Show

I really just want to let the Train guys know how amazing the SD show was this past weekend - I was totally sick and thinking of not going BUT the show was sold out and it seemed a shame to not use the tixs - and I am SO glad I did!! The Zepplin cover was better than the original!! Thanks for THE BEST show and come again soon, San Diego loves you!!
The second thing I wanted to say is that there's a lot of talk here about 1st Vs. 2nd album and I just want to say that they are each a work of art full of talent, heart and honesty - I am in awe!

June Dates?

Anyone have any insight on summer dates? How about back to the great Northwest?

susan - Tue Apr 24 18:21:04 EDT 2001

Drops of Jupiter

I could be wrong here, but I think that "Heaven" in this particular useage is a
metaphor for the destination of the journey this person. She's out there looking for
something ("Heaven" would be the ultimate), and when she gets there is it a case of
the actuality not being everything she hoped it would be. It's not very different than
analogy of "did you sail across the Sun", obviously this would not be feasible. I'm
sure the band is leaving the actual state of Heaven to the experts and means no
offense.

Pam - Tue Apr 24 17:43:14 EDT 2001

Tour Date

Our Lady Peace will be playing, along with TRAIN, at Atlanta's Music Midtown on May 4th, 5th, and 6th. Our Lady Peace is on the 4th and Train is on the 5th. Be sure to check them out as well as getting the latest release of Our Lady Peace, "Spiritual Machines."

James - Tue Apr 24 17:25:46 EDT 2001

Two requests

I'm gonna make two requests here. The first is that you guys come play in Athens, GA or you come back to Atlanta again this summer. I can't make it to the music midtown show cause my friend is graduating in SC. The second request is probably a little impatient, but what can I say. I'm just hoping that the time between the second and third album is the same as between the first and second. You guys put out some great music to chill out and relax to and I hope you'll keep it coming. I'd love to hear some more stuff with a little bit of the bluesy influence you guys had on your first album. Don't get sucked too far into the black hole of pop that seems to be sucking good bands into oblivion these days.

Erik - Tue Apr 24 16:53:27 EDT 2001

Oops!

Nothing important - I just found out that the song I keep referring to on your first CD (track 12) - which I keep calling "Look at Yourself" is actually called "Train". You know, I thought that the first time I heard it but it didn't seem to fit as well as the name I came up with (don't take that personally). Also, I just happen to tap into a message from Pat on April 18,I believe, after the Rosie show and he was doing laundry in a laundry mat. I always wondered what guys like you do to take care of the hum-drum normalcies of life. Glad to hear you all are still normal and I hate laundry too. Keep looking for my next words of wisdom, encouragement, nonsense and so on.

Love ya,
Shelly

Shelly - Tue Apr 24 16:45:40 EDT 2001

New Album

Just wanted to chime in briefly. I'm a huge fan of the band and have been for some time. I have to admit though, I'm more fond of the first CD as opposed to Drops of Jupiter. I'd have to agree somewhat with "Weeds" as far as this album sounding much more "pop" compared to the first. This may be the down side to having commercial success by way of "Meet Virginia". I think songs like "Eggplant" and "Idaho" show just how diverse Train can be. (Lyrically and musically.) I think the new album is crying out to the typical short attention span radio public. I don't dislike the new album, but hopefully the next one will have less string arrangements and MORE OF JIMMY'S GUITAR!

Dave M. - Tue Apr 24 16:41:10 EDT 2001

A Note to Weeds

You need to listen to the new CD a few more times. When I got the first CD I thought there were a few good songs on it. The more I listened to it, I grew to love the whole CD. It's definitely more rock. The new CD is note as heavy as the first (the first being easier rock). I had to listen to the new CD a few times and I will tell you I have grown to LOVE the first 7 songs (especially "It's About You"). The others are growing on me in a different way because they're a little mellower. You need to expand your mind a little and experience each song. I experience new CD's while playing cribbage. Put it on with a mix of other CD's and you will grow to love it too. I actually rock out to both of them while getting ready for the day. It primes me for a great day. Sometimes it's hard to get going because I don't want to miss any of the songs. Anyway, just a thought.

Train guys - just keep doing what you do best. Play YOUR music and, Pat, keep those vocals caressing the rest of us who truly enjoy to listen to you.

Shelly

P.S. Still waiting to hear from you.

Hi guys! I am obsessed. I received your first cd for a Bday present and became an instant fan. It is rare (at least for me), to buy a cd and actually listen to it from start to finish. Just wanted to give the guys in the band a little positive feedback on the new record. It is great. You guys are just getting better with age. Hi

HI guys, my name is Ketti, I'm 21, majoring in Law, fine arts, I saw you twice you rocked! Its funny I wasn't planing on going
and my niece who is 17 wanted to see you guys play she loved ur work... I on the other hand was much more leary, and kinda had to
be forced to take her, but I have to say it was a great decison. I loved the concert it was nice to have something in
common with my niece. We even went to see you at another venue. I guess I just wanted to say thanx... you gave me a way to relate
to my niece, and regain the closeness that we once had. Now we talk all the time, and are planning on seeing you again in may! Its become
our way of getting together.. we actually bought each other the new CD and gave it to each other for easter.. it was funny and nice to know that
we are soo alike.
Also on a side note its nice to see soo much creative writing in a band these days. My room mate who won't listen to anything made past 1975 ,
Will periodically be found listening to your CD, and I must say it takes alot to pull the Beatles out of her hands.

Well I must go and study for my finals... Have a nice summer and keep rocken...

My suggestion for Train

Whatever you were doing when making the first album is what you should go back to.
A lot of people have mentioned Matchbox 20 on this board. And I feel the same about their first album compared to their second. First rocked, second sounding more pop'ish.
Something was different, like you and them are getting soft or maybe too many suggestions from producers/directors/and suits.
Just dont go to faggy on me.
Y'all gotta admit that Drops of Jupiter video is made for 15 yr old girls.
Im a 32 yr old male and really enjoy your first album still. But it seems your target audience is different now...stop that immediately.

I loved your last cd and now I can't get enough of your new one. I can't wait to see you all in concert, possibly in Nashville. Never have I ever heard such great music. Everything sounds so original that it could only be the love for music that makes each song have it's own personality. I know that "Drops of Jupiter" is to be the big song on this cd but I can't help but love "Respect". To me, that is the deepest sond on the cd, so much said in three minutes. Encores

Rob: Left you message on your cell. Mystic Theatre concert superb. Only non-perfect moment was in second encore when people began to fidgit. No "rockers" in encores. Second singing of Drops saved the day. From the audience perspective, one constantly wonderful aspect of Train concerts is audience participation ex: letting audience sing Meet Virginia by itself. Everyone knows so much of the lyrics and practically all your songs.
Keeping with this successful "audience participation in Train concert" program, why not let audience pick the last song of last encore. Give them a choice of fast ones (you definitely want to leave them with a rocker): I would let them vote on, say, Virginia, Drops, Respect, She's On Fire, and Ramble On. Let them vote by applause after first giving them the options. Think it would leave everyone in audience feeling closer and rocking all the way home. It also might give you a rough feeling (after doing this at several concerts across the country) as to what should be your next "single".
Just my thoughts from your oldest fan. Keep up the good work. Just noticed that you held #18 in week 3 on Billboard. For the record, Bruce Springsteen, who premiered like you in the top 5 or 6, is now behind you. Not bad company.

daniel

I was just reading the last few days messages and wondered if anyone else saw the humor in "Daniel's new side". The message from his mother is priceless: please forgive daniel, he holds a lot of aggression towards train, because my husband(who is also my brother) are both train fanatics. as a child he would only listen to barry manilow. we forced him and his first girlfriend(his sister) to listen to train, apparently that was not healthy. we try to force him to take his medicine, but he is very reluctant. doctor fishburg feels that danny likes train, but is in the closet and trying to come out with his new personality. he did stop wearing dresses and that is a big relief. please be patient with him and let him come out in his own time.

Thank You

Train,
Thank you for the amazing song, "Drops of Jupiter." I heard it about 4 weeks ago, while I was flipping stations on the TV. I came across an interview you guys were doing with Much more music. I watched your video, and you guys instantly became my favorite band. Your song Drops of Jupiter is so amazing, every time I listen to it I get in a good mood. After I heard your song, I immediately told all my friends about it. They could hardly wait to hear what I was talking about. Slowly the radio got a hold of your song, and now evryday it is played more and more. This song is so great, I can hardly wait to get the cd. I can't wait to hear all your other songs. I just wanted to say thanx for the excelent music, and hope to see you in concert one day. Wishing you all the success in your future.

suggested covers...

I heard your version of Light My Fire, and it rocks, and i think you should play it in Indy....any Zeppelin tunes would be awesome...Hey Hey what can i do, or Tangerine would be really cool....anyway, I love Pat's soulful voice, not to mention the awesome guitar sounds, See you guys this Sat. in Indy.

Flying Monkeys & Oompa Loompas

Hey Train Guys!! Just thought I'd say (like everyone else) that I love your song
"Drops of Jupiter"!!! And, Pat, I am totally astonished that there is someone else out there
who loves both The Wizard of Oz & Willy Wonka! As a 29 year old woman, I've seen both
movies more times than I care to mention. The Scarcrow rulz, Veruca Salt is a bitch,
and the Flying Monkeys & Oompa Loompas freak me out!!!!!!! Also, this year, unlike past New
Year's, I made a resolution that I knew I would keep : to learn how to play Chess!!!
(and I thought I was the only one who'd never played before!)

Your old record was WONDERFUL. But this new record is ASTOUNDING! Absolutely a masterpiece, and I don't say that about many records, but this one takes the cake. INCREDIBLE job!

Let's Dance

Hi guys. It's me again. I just had to say, Pat, I would love to have the opportunity to dance with you. You just seem to move to every moment in your songs. We could really groove together. The rest of you, I have your music down pat (for dancing purposes only - I can't play a stitch). I do, however, have a guitar I got for Christmas a couple years ago. Haven't found the time - need to really bad. Been a dream of mine for a long time. Anyway, Pat, put on those dancing shoes next time you come to Portland and we can dance through the Milky Way, or we can just freefall and see what happens (Ha ha)! Love ya!

Maybe next time

Saw Train in Portland, OR on April 13 for the Earthday concert(with Shawn Colvin and John Hiatt). I was so disappointed you guys weren't top bill. We didn't stay much longer after you guys finished playing. Nothing could compare to your time on stage. Danced to every song in the front row (do you remember). (I don't see how people can just sit through a concert as good as this one). Got the O.K. from Chris to meet you guys after the concert (Chris, we had a few words from a short distance), but needed a pass to go backstage. Would love the opportunity next time you come to Portland. Please keep me in mind. Don't know if you answer personally, but would love to hear from you. Anyway, you guys are excellent. Love the new CD (especially the obvious DOJ, but also, She's on Fire, I Wish You Would, It's About You (wonderful). Your Train CD (first one, I believe) is excellent (love track 12 - no name - I'm guessing Look At Yourself - WOW!) Anyway, keep playing and I hope to see you soon. Let us know about a return trip to Portland, OR. Thanks

Indy show

Hey everyone! I was just curious as to who is going to the April 28th show in Indy? I have tickets but I don't think I am going to be able to make it. My car is in the shop, ie to transportation to get there. I could rent a limo and show up in style, but I spent my last $20 on my ticket. I hope something happens and a car appears on my front lawn Saturday morning, but if not, I know the show is going to rock. Have fun if you are going. Take care, bye!

New CD

Hey Pat and guys,
I just got your new CD last week. I couldnt wait to hear it. The new sound on this CD is very addictive. I haven't taken it out of my truck since I put it in the cd player last week. My 8 year old son loves the first track "Fire".

I'm also stoked to hear you are going to be touring with Matchbox 20. I first got into your music last year when you opened for Collective Soul in Jacksonville, FL. I bought your CD the next day. You guys have a very refreshing sound. In days where everyone is sounding the same or over done you guys come across in a way that is hard to describe. I know with more and more exposure everyone will have to have your new CD. I hope you will be comming back to Jacksonville sometime in the near future. In the meantime, I will continue to be a fan and make everyone who rides in my truck listen to your music. Wishing you guys great success in the future!!!!

shows Petaluma/San DEEEEE-a-go

Hey Guys:
It was good to you all down south - glad we got to say hello and chat for a spell - stayed in La Jolla - beautiful place but San Francisco is my home - so Pat I know how you feel when you said you missed the Bay Area SOOOOO much. As always you guys were great - thoroughly enjoyed both shows. Also enjoyed your rendition of "Brown Sugar". Never, out of the 3 gazillion shows we've been to, have we seen/heard you all perform that song. Now, Pat, all you have to do is prounce around the stage "Jagger Style" and you'll be good-to-go hee hee wink wink. Looking forward to the Warfield show. If I may, I would like to request that you all play "Hopeless and Mississippi" (our fav off the new CD)and my OLD OLD fav "Sorry For" (highway). By-the-way, speaking of "Sorry For" can you tell me what this song is about - I've been quessing for the longest time and if I told of my quesses you all would laugh yourselves silly. One more thing I get a real charge out of seeing you guys on TV - caught the Letterman and Rosie show and I must say, Pat, you can work that camera - looks as though you were born to be in front of a camera. Alright alright I'll stop.

As Always you all take care, be safe and enjoy your success.

Love JoAnn & Joe/See you soon

Train in T.O.

Howdy Boys. Just read you did an acoustic taping of "Ramble On" - most excellent. Look forward to hearing it (when?).

I'm doing my best to get the word out for your gig at the Opera House (Toronto, Canada). Fab news that you are coming back. Look forward to the seeing you all again - a step up from Lee's Palace, finally! About time. We'll get you in the Air Canada Centre soon enough. Not that I don't prefer the quaint pubs but time to share the music! Please PLEASE include "I am" on your set in T.O. Where's the party afterwards? Where's Arnie, is he coming? He owes me a drink!

First request for Chicago show?

I've already got my tix for the May 16th show - but I have a dilemma!
I am dying to hear "Gas" and "Flatfoot", but since my husband is 6'3", I
can't watch the show (and thus make the request) next to the stage -
people tend to get exponentially angrier each foot closer he gets to the
stage... SO, I'm sending my pre-show song request on-line instead - is
there any way you guys can fit one of these songs into the Chicago show???

Can't wait to see the show - I've seen you guys 5 times already, and I
ALWAYS have an incredibly fun time! Hope you never lose that energy!

They did it again!!

San Diego performance this weekend
was even better than LA!! "Brown Sugar" and "Sweet Rain" were OUTSTANDING!!
Pat told this story about a seagull
eating a jalapeno - corny & funny as hell.

Little note for Bob Schneider fans,
he WENT OFF! Literally - crashing into
Mike's cymbols, throwing down the mic stand.
Afterward, he said he'd recommend
doing that when you have a crappy day ...
but maybe not in front of a couple hundred people. LOL.

Drops of Jupiter

This is a great song. It has brought me to a new view and life, and for that I thank Train. The question I am pursuing refers to the line "and that heaven is overrated". What exactly are you getting at with this line? Fantasy can bring us to a new extent of thinking, but religion in itself is a concept far beyond many of our comprehensions. So often in our society, love will take the place of peace in our hearts, so we eventually think of love as God. This dilemma is brought about in music so often that it scares me. The unconditional love from God and the love for another human being are not even close to being even and if this song is portraying this, I believe that "train" might be portraying a negative message on the sense of where love should come from. Thanks for the inspiration with love, but lets keep it at humanly love, and not the supreme love of God.

San Diego concert was AWESOME!

I saw the concert last night as Cane's in SD. The show was awesome. I have to agree with what Leslie posted earlier about the crap that Cane's pulled with letting people in after standing in line for almost 2 hours. I was about 10 poeple back from the front of the line and when I got in there wasn't a place to sit, standing room only. And the area right in front of the stage was already taken. That's BS!

Anywho- the band played a spectacular show. I hope the next time they come back to SD, they will try to play at the 4th and B again. I am sure they can fill the venue. I saw them there last spring when they came to town and it was a intimate show.

Also- LOVED Bob Schneider. After he played, he came out to sign CD's and talk to the fans. What a great performer. The best part of his show was when he completely let go during "Blue Skies for Everyone"! I was three people back from the front, and we were sure he was going to fall off the stage! Way to go Bob!

Great Music

Hey guys
I'm a 21 year old university student in Ontario Canada and I just wanted to say I bought your first cd (Train) last summer, and it's been in heavy rotation in my cd tray ever since. Today I saw the video for your new video, Drops of Jupiter, and absolutely loved the song. It was actually the first time I'd seen any of your faces, and was pleasantly surprised. I just wanted to say that in the age of boy bands and teen pop sensations, you guys are like a breath of fresh air, not to sound too cliche. I'm hoping to buy your new cd ASAP and I really hope to come see you in May in Toronto.
Anyway, keep up the fantastic work!

Can't wait to see the boys here in Charlotte. I saw them for the first time last year in Atlanta and I can't remember the last time a band blew me away that much. I was so impressed.

The new album is absolutely amazing and is such an amazing display of songwriting intensity and showmanship. You guys really did it right!

Keep it up and I can't wait to see you here in Charlotte. I would love to meet a couple of the guys as well and talk songwriting since i'm a singer/songwriter myself. Anyone on here from Charlotte? I'd love to hear from some other Trainheads in the area!

lyrics

I sang Drops Of Jupiter to my boyfriend, and he said it was some of the most beautiful lyrics he had ever heard. It was an amazing relationship, we were so insync, intuned with each other emotions and thoughts. Then one day he told me that this was a difficult time in his life and he couldn't do this anymore. He told me i didn't deserve pain like this and swore it wasn't another girl, but wouldn't give specifics. i was so blindsided I left with out fighting for an answer. it was one if the hardest things i have ever had to do, i just got out of the car, and left him, with all that pain in his eyes and confusion in his heart, now every time i hear Drops Of Jupiter i think of the moment one day he wrapped his arms around me and held me close like there would be no tomorrow, and a single tear falls. Your music has moved me.

A big nod to fellow Tricksters!

Hi all-
I really enjoyed seeing Train last year at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC...and they REALLY won me over when they came on playing "I Want You To Want Me" as their first encore! I border a bit on "stalker status" when it come to Cheap Trick..anyway, I posted a nice review of the Train show on the TrickList (yeah, I know....get a life! hahaha) and got an email from Rick Neilsen to let me know that he had read it. No wonder I enjoy the musical stylings of Train- they obviously have GREAT taste in musical infuences! Rock on Trainsters!!!

Well they did it again!!!

After seeing the boys at the HOB in LA on Thursday I could not wait to see them
again last night at Canes in San Diego. Didn't think they could match the energy,
but sure enough, they did. Great show. (For those of you who do not want to know
what they have been playing stop reading now). Another beautiful version of
"Getaway," my new fav Train song. Also "whipping Boy" was new from Thursday and
excellent. Also covered "Ramble On" again and Stones' "Brown Sugar" which was
a very pleasant surprise. and Ralph, they did play a funky-cool version of "Sweet Rain."
Great show all around and I will agree with an earlier post that the Canes setup kind
of sucked. Not enough to take away from a great show though. The two shows in
three days sandwiched my 26th b-day and it was a terrific b-day weekend. Can't believe
I have to go back and teach tomorrow. Reality (and the end of spring break) sucks.
Well, can't wait for the boys to come back ASAP and there is always U2 on Thursday.
Thanks again guys. Keep up the good work.

AZ Show-Cancun House

You guys just get better each time I see you. This is your Number 1 fan Youlanda in AZ. The New Guys breakfast was great, I'm glad you like the stuff I had framed. Hope to see you this Summer with Match Box 20, keep the faith. Hey Rob did Tom give you the picture from your younger days? Until we meet again. Youlanda

WOW!!!

Wow, what a show Friday night in AZ, I had such a great time! Train is just awesome and that's all I need to say :) I wish they were coming back to AZ, or some place close, but no go. I'm going to Chicago for a few weeks and I miss them there by 2 days :(

What's this I hear about matchbox 20 and train together!? Anyone know if they are coming to AZ? If so, send me a quick email, please!

Train, you guys are the best! I've told everyone I know how awesome it was Friday night. thanks for such a great show, keep it up!

Carly - Sun Apr 22 20:03:19 EDT 2001

Just the way you are. :)

I bought the new Train CD and I am THRILLED! I missed their show at the House of Blues last week, :( but I am looking forward to seeing them when they return to LA.

If the band happens to read this note, PLEASE stay in the same vibe as this recent album. Your lyrics, music, and passion are beautiful and it is refreshing to hear a band's whole CD. It touches my soul and inspires me. PLEASE don't sell out and go commercial like other bands have.......ie; Dave Matthews Band.

Keep up the amazing work! It's bringing alot of joy to people's lives. :)

harmony through music

i've just been reading some of the latest comments. i don't quite understand how some people, not naming names (daniel), can totally slam one band and then praise another.
i adore radiohead, bless the day thom yorke was brought into this world, and i also love train. i don't think thom yorke, as a musician, would think too highly of anyone putting so much effort into slamming another band. i don't get it.
why can't you just say, "this ain't my cup of tea," and move on with your freakin' life????? or do you have a life? there's too much negative energy out there already without you.
find something else to do.

what makes a person such a fool?
just because someone could put into words what someone else could only feel? doesn't mean someone else has to get petty and jealous...
i know when she left i hurt like hell
still i wouldn't vent frustrations on ones who could make sense of it all just for their having the courage to share with the world the feelings caused by a similar situation...
really who's got the time to hate?
all m' fellow pasengers who let the music take them...

black crows?

I've heard and I now know...hello epiphany!

...further investigation on this "new-er" band (if you will) and I see nothing but BS!

..."F" the comparison's, "F" the critics opinions on the song writing, "F" all opposed to the band's music, "F" it all. you all forget! it's the music not the image.

San Diego Show

Wow what an awesome show. Then again so was the last Train show I saw. The energy comming form the band to the fans is awesome. ou guys are the best.

Myt only complaint is about Canes. THey totally ruined part of the evening for me and a handful of others.
They had us all in one line to start and before opening the doors they gave us wristbands and checked ID's for 21 and up. Mike and I were third and fourth in line and we got there at 5:30. (really 4 but ew hung out listening to Train first in the car)
SO a few min after we get the bands some guy comes out saying something about the back entrance you can wait at too if you are ????? this is w2here we couldnt tell if he said 21 and over or the people without wristbands. And being right in the front of the line we were ot goign to race with the other people to the back door. We complain as we see the other door's line disapeer. They dont do much then finally realize they better let the screaming people in and dsid. However, all the best spots were takin. They had let the back door people in and the people who had been eating upstairs and were also waiting to get in. No one told us this. SO here we are fighting for good spots with people that just got there. Mind you its right by the ocean and freeeeezing. So someone complained to the manager and I walked over since I was apart of it and he wasnt helpful at all. Says thats the way they do things and so on. Well they need to let people know sooner. The bouncers who were at the door should have known and said somethign. Anyway ive "Rambled On" enough. Not sure I plan to go back to canes anytime soon, unless train plays again I will :) But this is a good FYI for the next time anyone goes there.
(I have tons of pics thouhg there are poles in the way cause of my horrible seat) i will post soon.

Thanks for listening

Leslie

"Drops of Jupiter" is simply amazing!

I can't say enough about "Drops of Jupiter". Being a musician myself, I haven't heard such a wonderfully written piece of music in a long time. It's got a beautiful flow and it really inspires me to create. My respect for this band is enormous!!!!

San Diego show 4/27/01

Just got in from the show at Cane's in Mission Beach. The guys totally rocked the house!
Pat's voice is so clear , strong, and smooth, and it stayed that way right up to the last note.
Amazing energy and stamina! Scott was a madman, and I so loved it when Pat and Scott
did the two man percussion jam. Jimmy's mandolin sounded so sweet, floating above the melody,
I think I may have had an out of body experience! Loved the cover of Brown Sugar during the encore,
and Sweet Rain was also very touching. I would have liked to hear Let It Roll,
but Jimmy said they tried to stay away from the real slow ballads because it was more of an
upbeat venue. I really want to thank Pat, Charlie, and especially Jimmy for taking the time to
stop and talk in the parking lot. Pat sez DOJ came to him in a dream. How magical is that?
Thanks for the autographs, the conversation, and most of all for an honest, passionate performance
of some deeply inspired music. Namaste! ~Sylvia

my poor son Daniel

please forgive daniel, he holds a lot of aggression towards train, because my husband(who is also my brother) are both train fanatics. as a child he would only listen to barry manilow. we forced him and his first girlfriend(his sister) to listen to train, apparently that was not healthy. we try to force him to take his medicine, but he is very reluctant. doctor fishburg feels that danny likes train, but is in the closet and trying to come out with his new personality. he did stop wearing dresses and that is a big relief. please be patient with him and let him come out in his own time.
embarrassed mother(and train fan)

martha focker - Sun Apr 22 04:32:55 EDT 2001

that PLANE thang...

my first thought about the plane logo was that it represented DOJ - directly from the line in the song about the man too afraid to fly so he never did land...(that, and the original DOJ video being shot in an airplane hanger or something)...
but if it's just a take on the old "planes, trains, & automobiles" thing, then that's cool, too.
i did get a kick about the tie in to Amelia Earhardt, though...

peace
Trainiacs!

lyrics/cynical/blah blah blah

i cannot tell you why those lyrics are brilliant,
personally i do not find that they are. i never said radiohead was brilliant, i said i listened to them at times. i do not own that particular song, nor will i bother to. this is not a battle of the bands. i wave no flags for any band, nor will
i bother defending my tastes. i don't have to qualify myself in order to have and post my opinions. i think train is garbage music, effortless and disgustly mainstream. for
whatever sad reasons, american music buyers
seem to forever gravitate towards the bland
and the uninspired. we have become a society
of passive simpletons. beer will win out over
spirituality every time. we are collectively
lifeless, not born to run, but wallow in front
of the tv watching soap operas and cartoons.
perhaps it's fitting that this hell has a top
forty soundtrack. as for me....no thanks. i'll
take my orb and liszt cd's and hit the highway..
laughing at the comedy of your pathetic souls
as i go. whatever. you don't care and i don't care. that's pretty much the way it's always been.
your comments don't affect me, i don't know why
mine should affect you. blah blah blah.....whatever....
and...by the way....the 'real daniel' can construct a sensible sentence, still dislikes
train, and has no yahoo address....seems bad
imitators go right along with the bad music on
this site....

I'm just rambling on...

Random replies....To Debra: I agree, MB20/Everclear/Lifehouse was an awesome show! I hope the MB20/Train tour does come through your way, because I'm sorry to say that I think you've already missed Train's headlining Portland date. To Melissa: Have you ever visited amiright.com? I can't remember how I stumbled in there the first time, but I can't stop going back....it's a site for misheard song lyrics and it's absolutely hysterical! Maybe I'll submit my own misheard Train lyrics--anyone else got any of those? My favorite is actually one of my friends': she heard "One day I'll wear the wig" in Rat. To all the frustrated New Yorkers: I hear ya! I can't believe they're not stopping in NYC en route to Philly :(. I'm sure they'll come back here eventually, but for now I'm following a crazy impulse and going to Hartford and Albany as well. It'll just about kill my car, but one show just isn't enough! And to Cynical and Daniel: wouldn't you guys get more enjoyment out of discussing music you like, instead of music that upsets you? I happen to like the Monkees and the Bangles, and I think Radiohead is brilliant (though I'm not going to attempt an interpretation of Creep on the Train BBS), but if you guys disagree then talking about them's only going to bring you down :(. Ehhh, I don't even know why I'm saying anything...all this wonderful Train must've gone to my head!

@ The Cajun House

OK, even though they so unfairly shoved all -21 up onto the balcony at last nights show, I had the best time. Never in my life have I heard so many people sing along to one song like they did for "Meet Virginia". And despite my initial irritation, I think that we got a better view from above, since we were practically on top of the stage! So I was one happy little camper. And the three members I got to meet were incredibly gracious and sweet. Charlie chatted with us for a good twenty minutes, and I have to say he's much too soft-spoken and timid to be such an amazing "rock star"! And Pat is even better looking up close than he is in pictures. They were all much more down to earth than I thought was possible for such talented musicians. I can't wait until ya'll come back!

I'm also from the matchboxtwenty.com GD (hey matty! hehe) and i'd like to say i'm VERY excited about seeing Train and matchbox twenty touring together. i love both bands, and you train fans who are going to the shows will NOT be dissappointed with matchbox twenty's performance! i saw them in march and they were soooo awesome! let's not be like "oh, mbt is soo much better!" or "train kicks mbt's ass!" let's keep it that the bands are touring together so they respect eachother and like eachother's music, so we should respect their decision.
