When the original Corby station closed in 1966, the town gained the dubious honour of being the largest in Europe without a railway station. In 1970 the town of Corby gained worldwide fame and even had a crater on Mars named in its honour by NASA as a result of a conversation between Apollo 11 astronauts and mission control.

Since 2009, however, travellers to the town have arrived at a brand new station, welcoming hourly trains to Corby from Kettering, with most services originating at London St Pancras.

The station serves as a transport interchange for the town, with bus services leaving from the forecourt on Station Road. The town centre is to the west of the station and is either a twenty-minute walk or six-minute bus ride away. As part of a recent town regeneration scheme, the new Willow Place Shopping Centre was opened, as well as the Corby Cube - a development that includes council offices, a library, and two theatres. Another popular attraction in the town is the Rockingham Motor Speedway, half-an-hour north of the station by bus.
