Trains to Sudbury

Trains to Sudbury in Suffolk traverse the River Stour before coming to rest a short walk from the water in this small market town. With such pleasant views, it's little surprise that Sudbury has artistic heritage - the painters Thomas Gainsborough and John Constable both captured the beauty of the Stour Valley, and today the line leading into the town is fittingly known as the Gainsborough Line. Rail arrived in Sudbury in 1849 and the current station is the town's third, built in 1991. Sudbury is a walkers' paradise, with the Dedham Vale a short distance away. The River Stour Trust and the Sudbury Canoe Club offer the chance to get out on the water, and Gainsborough House is just ten minutes from the station - the one-time home of the great painter dates back to the 15th century and houses an engrossing collection. Sudbury also retains its Saxon status as a market town, with a stalls setting up twice a week.
