1. Cornwall

Historical harbours, sandy dunes and picturesque blue seas – it can only be Cornwall! A staycation favourite for many years, Cornwall has something for everyone. From water sports to pristine beaches and not forgetting a classic Cornish cream tea, this county has so many places you can enjoy.

Fish for crabs in the harbour at Padstow or take the ferry across to Rock and some lunch at The Mariners. Fancy a go at surfing? Fistral beach in Newquay is the one for you. We can’t mention North Wales without talking about Snowdonia National Park. Home to Mount Snowdon, the Ffestiniog Railway and award-winning beaches to name a few of the attractions here, this stunning area is brimming with history and nature.

Fancy stepping back in time? Why not head to the Victorian seaside hotspot of Llandudno? Have a classic British day at the seaside or explore the Elephant Cave and gaze in awe at its limestone wonders. There’s also the scenic Wales Coast Path that you can walk or cycle along to spot historic buildings, including Conwy Castle.

5. The Highlands

If you’re looking for romantic scenery and stunning natural landscapes, why not take a staycation in the Highlands? With 30,000 km² to explore, you’ll never run out of things to do here. For those who love the great outdoors, Britain's largest National Park has islands, coastlines and mountains just waiting to welcome you.

Known as the ‘Charing Cross of the Highlands’, the charming town of Oban is a great place to base yourself for a staycation in this area. It may be small, but Oban is home to a picturesque waterfront, world-class restaurants and beautiful stone buildings. It also offers easy access to the islands and surrounding areas of the Highlands, making it perfect for day trips.

Cairngorms National Park is not to be missed too. With plenty of dramatic mountain ranges, sparkling lochs and thick forests, if you like outdoor sports this is the place to be. We’d recommend staying in nearby Aviemore, located in the north-western corner of the national park.

6. Thanet, Kent

Thanet features some Great British seaside destinations such as Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate. It only takes around 20 minutes to travel between each location, so you could visit 3 in one day if you wanted, however, we think spending a day in each makes for a lovely staycation by the sea.

Be sure to stop at Morelli’s traditional ice-cream parlour in Broadstairs, have a wander around the art galleries in Old Town in Margate, and enjoy some coffee and cake at Archive by the marina in Ramsgate.

And don’t forget the beautiful beaches! Ramsgate Main Sands, Margate Main Sands and Viking Bay in Broadstairs all feature golden sands and plenty of space for a day of relaxation.
